So I just bought a new 2k 144hz 27 inch monitor and i love it. But sometimes I dont wont to game at 2k but 1080p instead for multiple reasons like wanting more frames or some games aren’t optimized for 2k. So I wanna run my pc at 1080p without getting black notches at my screen. Sort by:

Mar 29, 2016. Its not possible, although cables are able to allow 1080p 120hz, that monitors panel is set to run at 60hz. You could try to over clock the monitor, but I doubt you'd get over 75hz. Edit: 24" 4k monitors are also said to have scaling issues. If I were you, go 1080p 144hz or if you can afford it, 1440p 144hz.
The only reason why your computer is reporting a maximum resolution of 2K is because that's what the monitor says its maximum resolution is. Unless your computer was built before 2016, it'll drive a 4K resolution monitor. Though it might be able to anyway if there's a video card with DisplayPort or HDMI 2.0 on it. 0.
